Peruvian Seco de Cabrito Named Best Stew in the World in TasteAtlas 2025

Peru’s rich culinary tradition has reached a new global milestone: the seco de cabrito, a traditional goat stew from northern Peru, has been ranked the world’s best stew in the 2025 TasteAtlas ranking of the top 100 stews worldwide.

In the TasteAtlas list, compiled from thousands of verified user ratings on the international food platform, the seco de cabrito scored 4.5 out of 5 and stood above iconic stews from around the world. It was also the only Latin American stew to place among the top five dishes in the global ranking.

This iconic Peruvian dish is known for its slow-cooked cabrito (young goat) simmered with cilantro, ají peppers, peas, carrots, and other seasonings that create a rich, aromatic sauce. Traditionally served with rice and sometimes enhanced with beer or chicha de jora, seco de cabrito reflects Peru’s blend of Andean and criollo culinary influences.

The recognition underscores the growing international appreciation for Peru’s gastronomy, which continues to shine across diverse food categories on global ranking platforms.
