Peru is increasingly recognized on the world stage for its commitment to sustainable tourism, with four of its protected natural areas featured in the Top 100 Green Destinations Stories 2025, a prestigious international ranking that highlights destinations with strong conservation practices and responsible tourism models.
The distinction, announced during the Green Destinations Conference in Montpellier, France, includes Peru’s Huascarán National Park (Ancash), Tingo María National Park (Huánuco), the Mar Tropical de Grau National Reserve (Piura & Tumbes), and the Lachay National Reserve (Lima) among the world’s top sustainable tourism stories.
Tourism authorities say the recognition reflects Peru’s ongoing efforts to promote conservation, inclusive development, and sustainable travel experiences. The parks and reserves showcase diverse ecosystems, from Andean peaks and glacial lakes to coastal lomas and tropical forests, that offer visitors nature, adventure, and cultural encounters while protecting biodiversity.
Officials also highlighted strong visitor numbers in 2025: Huascarán National Park received over 230,000 tourists, Tingo María saw more than 183,000, and the Lachay Reserve welcomed over 69,000 visitors, illustrating growing global interest in Peru’s natural destinations.
The distinction strengthens Peru’s profile as a leading sustainable travel destination and supports efforts to position tourism as a driver of economic, social, and environmental development.
