One of Lima's most anticipated tourism projects is getting closer to welcoming its first passengers. The Miraflores Cable Car has entered its final testing phase and is expected to begin trial operations between late July and August, marking an important step toward opening a new attraction that will connect the city's iconic clifftop promenade with the beaches of the Costa Verde.
The project, developed through a private investment of more than US$10 million, is designed to connect Domodossola Park in Miraflores with Redondo II Beach below the cliffs. Once operational, the cable car will provide a fast and scenic link between the Malecón and the coastline, offering both a practical transportation option and a unique sightseeing experience for visitors.
The system features a cabin with capacity for 15 passengers and will travel approximately 315 meters in about three minutes. Before opening to the public, the cable car must successfully complete operational tests and receive international safety certification from a specialized German company, ensuring that it meets strict technical and safety standards. Recent trial runs have shown the system operating along the route as engineers continue evaluating its performance.
Once it begins service, the Miraflores Cable Car is expected to become one of Lima's newest visitor attractions. In addition to improving access between the clifftop parks and the Costa Verde, the ride will offer panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, Lima's coastline, and the city's famous waterfront. The project also reflects Miraflores' efforts to expand its tourism offerings and enhance the experience for both residents and international travelers.
For travelers planning a Peru travel itinerary, the cable car could become another highlight of a stay in Lima. Combined with a walk along the Malecón, visits to nearby parks, restaurants, and the district's cultural attractions, it offers a new way to experience one of the capital's most popular neighborhoods before continuing on to destinations such as Cusco, the Sacred Valley, or Machu Picchu.
