Lima Celebrates World Surfing Day 2026 on Peru’s Pacific Coast

Lima is set to celebrate World Surfing Day on June 20, 2026 with a full day of activities along the coast of Miraflores. The event will bring together surfers, local residents, and visitors for a celebration that includes a large paddle out, free surf lessons, beach activities, live music, and environmental initiatives focused on protecting the ocean.

The main activities will take place between Waikiki Beach and Punta Roquitas, two of Lima’s most popular surfing spots. Organizers have also planned more than 12 hours of live music, creating a festive atmosphere along the waterfront while highlighting the city's strong connection to the sea.

Surfing has a special place in Peru’s history. Many historians and surfers point to the ancient caballitos de totora, traditional reed boats used by fishermen on Peru’s northern coast for thousands of years, as an early form of wave riding. Today, that relationship with the ocean remains an important part of the country’s coastal culture.

Peru is widely recognized as one of Latin America's leading surf destinations, offering world class waves throughout the year. From the beaches of Lima to the famous breaks of northern Peru, the country continues to attract surfers from around the world looking for both adventure and authentic coastal experiences.
