Cusco Considers a New High-Andean Route and Access Point to Machu Picchu

A new tourism proposal in Cusco could open up a different way for travelers to explore the region and reach Machu Picchu. The initiative would create a High-Andean tourist circuit connecting several communities and attractions in the Cusco region, while also studying Pachar as a possible new starting point for visitors traveling toward Machu Picchu.

The proposal has generated interest because Pachar, located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, could become an alternative starting point for part of the journey to the famous archaeological site. The idea is part of a broader effort to develop new tourism routes and distribute visitor activity across more destinations in the region.

The planned high-Andean circuit would highlight landscapes and communities beyond the most visited areas of Cusco. According to local authorities, the project could help bring more visitors to these areas and create new opportunities for local communities while adding more options for travelers interested in experiencing the Andes.

The proposal is still under evaluation, so Pachar has not yet become an official new entrance or departure point for Machu Picchu. However, the idea reflects ongoing efforts to diversify tourism in Cusco and develop new experiences around one of Peru's most visited destinations.
