New Rules for Visiting Laguna 69 in Peru Take Effect in February

Starting February 9, 2026, access to the iconic Laguna 69 and the nearby Nevado Pisco in the Huascarán National Park (Áncash region) will change under a new tourist control system.

Under the new rules announced by the National Service of Natural Protected Areas (SERNANP), visitors will only be able to enter these popular attractions through authorized tour agencies that hold a current contract with the park authorities. This measure aims to promote safer, more sustainable, and better-managed tourism experiences in one of the country’s most visited natural sites.

Agencies will be responsible for purchasing digital entry tickets through SERNANP’s official platform, and travelers should check the updated list of approved operators before planning their visit. The requirement to enter via authorized agencies also applies to Nevado Pisco, although this change will begin later, from April 1, due to temporary restrictions in that area.

Other routes within Huascarán National Park, such as Laguna Chinancocha, will continue to allow direct ticket purchase by visitors at control posts or online.

Laguna 69 is renowned for its vibrant turquoise waters and stunning mountain setting, making it one of Peru’s most popular trekking destinations.
