Experience the Sacred Valley in reverse: from the salt mines of Maras and the circular terraces of Moray to the welcoming community of Cuper Bajo. Hike with llamas along ancient Inca paths, enjoy a traditional Andean lunch, and learn the art of weaving before returning to Cusco enriched by culture and nature.
TRIP SUMMARY
Day 1: Piuray Lagoon, Chinchero, Maras, Moray
In the morning, you will be picked up and we will head to Maras and Moray. In Moray, we will visit three large circular terraces, believed to have been an agricultural experimentation center for the Incas. In nearby Maras, we will learn how salt is extracted at an altitude of 3,000 meters.
Afterwards, we drive to Chinchero, where we will take you along the Piuray Lagoon to the community of Cuper Bajo.
In Cuper Bajo, the local community will welcome you with music and dance and bring you to the community house. The villagers, who mainly live from handicrafts and agriculture, will then take you on a short hike with llamas (30 to 40 minutes) to the Piuray Lagoon. Along the way, you will pass ancient Inca ruins and enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the area.
After a traditional lunch, you will have the opportunity to learn about traditional weaving and dyeing techniques, and you can also purchase these handicrafts.
At the end of our excursion, we head to Cusco, a vibrant village of Incan origin, where you will be taken to your hotel and have the afternoon or evening free to explore on your own.
